November on the Camino del Norte is cool and increasingly damp as you progress westward. Nights drop sharply, often to 4°C or below, so you should expect a genuine winter chill despite the relatively modest daytime highs. The transition becomes pronounced after Cantabria, where conditions steadily cool and darken.

Rainfall is frequent and persistent throughout the month. The Basque Country and Galicia both experience rain on nearly every single day, while Asturias averages nine rainy days out of eleven stages. Most falls as steady, light drizzle rather than heavy downpours, but cumulative dampness will affect gear and morale. Wind gusts can reach 67 kilometres per hour on exposed sections and ridgelines, particularly troublesome on higher terrain where the route climbs to around 500 metres at places like Sobrado.

Elevation compounds these challenges. Night temperatures at higher points can plummet well below freezing, and wind exposure on passes becomes the real hazard rather than the modest altitude gain itself. Layer generously with a reliable waterproof shell, and consider starting walks early to avoid afternoon wind strengthening. Wet conditions demand caution on descents, where footing becomes treacherous.
