The route grows gradually warmer as you move south from Porto, where temperatures average 19.5°C, through to Galicia where conditions reach their warmest at around 19.7°C. This gentle warming makes May one of the more comfortable months for walking, though early mornings remain notably cool regardless of region.

Rainfall is frequent but typically light throughout May. Expect wet weather roughly every other day, with Galicia experiencing the most days of rain—around six out of every seven days—though individual showers tend to be brief rather than sustained downpours. The northern regions around Viana do Castelo and Braga see similar patterns. Wind can gust strongly, occasionally reaching 54.6 km/h, particularly on more exposed sections of the route.

Higher sections expose you more fully to wind and weather.
